52 Ancestors in 52 Weeks
Week 45
Veteran's Day 2023
Thank you to all who serve and have served!
This story is a story about the coincidences of a young man and his 2x's great grandfather serving on the same base almost 100 years apart. Neither one ever knew the other and in fact the younger didn't know his family was at the Presidio of Monterey, CA at all until I stumbled across the service record of the older a few weeks ago.
Troop "F", 11th Cavalry
Presidio of Monterey, CA
1926-1929
Below are a few of the several rosters that document Glen Fueston's time serving at the Presidio of Monterey, CA. I'd mentioned there were coincidences. The document below, when reviewed, revealed another unexpected coincidence contained within it.
Along my genealogy journey one of my mentors said to "always look over all the names on a document". "Look for collateral people who may be on the document that will appear somewhere else in the life of your family" I was told. Taking that advice I scanned this document, not memorizing it but just scanned it looking at the names. One of the names will appear again in Glen's life. See if you can spot him.
Marriage license of Glen Fueston and Ann (Olsen)Piatz
If you found it great! If not hint, who is Glen's best man at his wedding to Ann?
The other extremely important information on this marriage license is it confirms the names of both Glen's parents and Ann's parents as well as their birth states for Glen's parents and countries for Ann's. Their parents are the 3x's great grandparents of Eithan Quick and his siblings.
And awesome coincidences.
Again Thank you to all who have served
